A research stay of about four months at ABB in Kraków during the first year of my PhD, working on electric drives from the industrial side: bench testing, measurement and parameter identification.
What I did
Ran two test benches for small motors, one permanent-magnet synchronous and one induction, each driven by an ABB inverter.
Measured voltages and currents with oscilloscopes and probes, cabling and couplings included.
Identified the motor parameters from the test data with openly documented identification methods.
Used that comparison to interpret how the inverter's own closed, black-box routines behave.
Context
The stay was part of my PhD on highly efficient design and control of electric drives for transportation electrification: a chance to see how a global industrial group tests and models drives, and to bring that rigour back to the lab.
